GPA personnel designed a Rapid Elevated Aerostat Platform (REAP) system for the Navy.
The system consisted of an aerostat deployment module containing aerostat, payload, and tether; land/sea (buoy) module for packaging helium supply, electronics, and batteries; a sea based mooring/anchor module; land and sea based launching systems.
The design was used to prove the concept of utilizing a rapidly deployable, cost-effective aerostat platform to facilitate US military communications at remote sites.
